Effective Immediately, Tea Party Express Is No Longer a Member

of the National Tea Party Federation

Date: Sat, 17 Jul 2010 at 3:43pm

Last night, the members of the National Tea Party Federation participating in an "All Hands" conference call unanimously decided the following:

The membership of the National Tea Party Federation has this evening suspended and will immediately expel Tea Party Express from any further association with the Federation should they fail to publicly rebuke Mark Williams and remove him from their ranks by 3 pm eastern time Saturday July 17.

The rebuke must take the following form:

1. Mark Williams must be officially removed from the ranks of the Tea Party Express.

2. Notice of Mark Williams' removal must be placed prominently on the official Tea Party Express website.

3. Tea Party Express must issue a press release articulating points 1 and 2 above.

* * *

Last night, a member of the National Tea Party Federation communicated our decision directly to a member of the leadership team of Tea Party Express. That leader's response was clear: they have no intention of taking the action we required for their group to continue as a member of the National Tea Party Federation.

Therefore, effective immediately the National Tea Party Federation is expelling Tea Party Express from the ranks of our membership.

National Tea Party Federation Rejects NAACP Accusations of Racism

July 14, 2010 – The National Tea Party Federation (NTPF) today flatly rejected the NAACP’s unfounded accusations that condemn “racist elements” in the tea party movement.

Tea Party and citizen group leaders from across the nation came together to respond to the outrageous and untrue accusations promoted by the NAACP and their political allies on the Left.

The Tea Party Movement was founded on a desire to return the United States to the proven principles of fiscal responsibility, free enterprise and liberty; and that limited, effective, and efficient government must be our collective goal.

A tease of the NAACP’s announced, approved, but as-of-yet unreleased resolutions states, “… Tea party movement is a threat to the pursuit of human rights, justice and equality for all.”  A short statement on the group’s website seems to base this upon the repudiated charges levied by Congressional Black Congress members against Tea Party rally participants in March.

David Webb, co-founder of New York’s TeaParty365 said, “A false charge of racism is itself, racist.  The NAACP’s looming irrelevancy as a true civil rights organization is result of their shift to a far-left ideology.  This Resolution shows they no longer serve the black community’s interests to advance people of color within American culture.  Instead, they exert their power to isolate and control people of color.”

"We strongly condemn the resolution by the NAACP, labeling the Tea Party as ‘racist,’” said Texas’ Laredo Tea Party Co-Chair Marion Santiago.

“Our group is comprised of at least 90 percent Hispanics/Latinos. We embrace anyone regardless of color, race, religion, gender or political affiliation, unlike the NAACP.”

Andrew Breitbart, Publisher of BigGovernment.com said, “The NAACP – like the Democrat party which it now exclusively serves - is in search of a desperate butt-saving play to protect the Party from November electoral losses.  People’s eyes are now wide open to the complicity of the once-respected civil rights organization and once-respected Party.”

A collection of statements by tea party group leaders from across the country and further documentation illustrating the hypocrisy of the NAACP’s selective condemnation of fringe elements versus institutional racism can be found at http://thenationalteapartyfederation.com/press_room.html

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 14, 2010 – Tea Party and like-minded group leaders – all of whom are minorities – issue statements from across the country denouncing the NAACP for adopting a resolution condemning “racist elements” within the Tea Party Movement.

Bishop E.W. Jackson, Sr., President of STAND, Chesapeake VA (757.277.6043)

“While I have great admiration for the historic contribution the NAACP once made toward equality and justice for black Americans, they have lost their way. Instead of seeking justice, they play racial politics and march lockstep with the far left. They were once independent. Now liberals say jump, and the NAACP says, ‘How high?’

“The NAACP was silent during the hateful, racist, anti-Semitic rants of Jeremiah Wright and the New Black Panther Party. Instead of defending Kenneth Gladney’s right to freely express his political views as a black American, they were silent when he was viciously attacked at a Tea Party rally and called the “N” word by SEIU thugs. It seems that the NAACP is only for the advancement of liberal “colored” people. Therefore it has lost credibility as a true civil rights organization.”

M.Davies, The Kitchen Table Patriots "As a Conservative, Latina, military mom of four and daughter of immigrants, I  respect the values and principles upon which this great nation was founded. The principles espoused by the tea party movement are much more in line with our family's values than those espoused by the party of Pelosi and Code Pink. "

Frantz Kebreau, Co-Founder, NAACPC.org, "Martin Luther King JR. once stated, ‘...and from one blood God made man. Let us be dissatisfied until nobody shouts "White Power," nobody shouts "Black Power," but everybody talks about God's Power and human power.’ The Tea Party movement is made up of Americans who truly believe in the concept of Individual Freedom. If you truly believe in that concept, it is impossible to be racist. Racism can only come from those who do not aspire to the knowledge that "all men are created equal." The Tea Party Movement and its members do not care about skin color because the concept of Individual Freedom does not allow it."

Sonnie Johnson, President of the Frederick Douglass Foundation of Virginia,

Woodbridge VA (571.285.2019)

“Here comes the Talented Tenth to the racial rescue! As an organization claiming to represent the black community, the NAACP would serve that community well by focusing on the critical issues of unemployment, education, and financial literacy. But instead they are playing politics with a racial resolution against the Tea Party—a non-partisan organization that represents Black, White, Brown, and all colors in between.

“From the Jackson Ward Area of Richmond to the Vinger Hill area of Charlottesville, I understand how the NAACP’s politics damages the black community. After forty years of advancing a big government agenda, trading political favors, and rewarding the children of former civil rights leaders for the courage shown by their parents, they continue to destroy productive communities that could otherwise flourish under the freedom that comes with small government.”

Ana Puig, co-Chair, The Kitchen Table Patriots. “The condemnation of the Tea Party as a racist movement by the NAACP has finally exposed the true political agenda of what was once the pre-eminent civil rights group in our nation.  Today’s NAACP is no longer about civil rights, but about promoting communist ideology under the pretense of social justice.  They are attempting to smear the Tea Party movement due to fear of the effective messaging with the American people.”

Gilbert Wilkerson, Richmond Tea Party Board of Directors, Richmond VA (804.304.1598)

“As an African American, I expect the NAACP to condemn the violent crimes in our neighborhoods, the genocide of millions of unborn black babies, and the high dropout rate among our black youth. Instead, the NAACP steps over the weightier matters to condemn the Tea Party for unproven racial slurs and a few offensive posters about the president (which the Tea Party itself has condemned). Is this how the many black supporters of the NAACP want their money used?”

Katrina Pierson, Dallas Tea Party “The NAACP should only propose resolutions that they have exercised themselves.  The Tea Party, only active for a year and half, is the only group being singled out for racism in today’s society. Could it be that the 2008 election served a greater purpose? The existence of the NAACP, and others like it, is threatened by the existence of the Tea Party. The reality is that we colored people no longer require the assistance from other Negros for advancement in 2010.”

Marion G. Santiago Co-Chairwoman Laredo Tea Party Patriots, "We strongly condemn the resolution by the NAACP, labeling the Tea Party as "racist".  Our group is comprised of at least 90 percent Hispanics/Latinos. We embrace anyone regardless of color, race, religion, gender or political affiliation, unlike the NAACP.  We believe in Fiscal Responsibility, Limited Government, and Free Markets, and we recognize the strength of grassroots organizing powered by activism and civic responsibility at a local level. We leave no room to discriminate against ANYONE.  The statement and resolution by the NAACP is bigoted and false."

Kamau A. Bakari of the Nevada Tea Party, “I, here and now, admit to being a Colored man, business owner, native Las Vegan, and a member of the local tea party movement.  I resent the NAACP accusing my fellow tea party members of being racists.  I have never seen or heard anybody at the tea party rallies say or do anything that would be considered racist.  My experience at the tea party rallies is one of complete civility.  It seems the tea party is doing more to advance this Colored man than the NAACP.”

Coby W. Dillard, Co-Founder of the Hampton Roads Tea Party, Norfolk VA (757.277.6043)

“With 15% of blacks unemployed and 13% in fair or poor health nationwide, one would expect the NAACP to focus on problems that truly damage the black community. Instead, they choose to sow more racial divisiveness against the Tea Party—a movement that seeks to restore those founding principles that unite Americans of all colors as one nation, indivisible.

“Sadly, this continues the NAACP’s recent history of division among the very lines they claim to work to eliminate. How unfortunate that this organization, with its proud history during the civil rights era, chooses to denigrate the Tea Party movement instead of seeking common ground.

“When the NAACP is truly ready to work towards its goal of ‘One Nation, One Dream,’ they are welcome to unite with us as we work towards that same end.”

Tea Party Groups Call on Sponsors to Drop Hardball

Matthews' "Hit Piece" Disparages Tea Party Members

June 17, 2010 –  The National Tea Party Federation, a broad coalition of Tea Party groups, takes a stand and condemns the left-wing propaganda hit piece that aired on MSNBC June 16th.

The program, Rise of the New Right, was journalism at its worst, and its purpose was to demonize and misrepresent. Chris Matthews used his Hardball program to slander and mislead the American people by distorting facts about the Tea Party Movement.  Hardball selectively portrayed groups and individuals in the program in a bad light.

David Webb, co-founder of New York City’s TeaParty365 said, “Chris Matthews is a far left commentator, not a journalist and therefore should not be held to or credited with the same standards.”

“I am an American who happens to be black, Republican, and that offends their warped vision. I would gladly face Matthews one-on-one anytime on policy and issues. This attack on Americans of all ethnicities, religious beliefs, age and political affiliations will ultimately fail because the truth wins. The desperation of a failing far left, and a dying network is apparent,” Webb concluded.

FreedomWorks Grassroots Director Brendan Steinhauser said, “The Tea Party movement I know looks nothing like the one portrayed on MSNBC. It is made up of good, hardworking, honest, smart people who love their country. It is a movement that reflects the best in America.”

Mark A. Skoda, Memphis TEA Party Chairman, “The Tea Party movement has had a profound impact on election outcomes.  The fact that MSNBC has taken it upon themselves to distort and disparage these Americans is unacceptable.  Chris Matthews continued to promote the racism narrative, suggested the prospect of violent behavior by activists and promulgated the idea that the conservative movement is somehow un-American. We will encourage our coalition and Tea Party people everywhere to make their voices heard at MSNBC and to their sponsors.”

Jamie Radkte, Chairman of The Virginia Tea Party Patriot Federation, said, “What we witnessed tonight was an attempt by Chris Matthews to demonize Americans who believe in the Founding principles of limited government, fiscal restraint, and Constitutional adherence as violent, radical, extremists, who are threatening the very foundation of our nation. This type of commentary is divisive, shameful, and irresponsible.”

Nationwide Tea Party Coalition co-founder Michael Patrick Leahy, added, “Chris Matthews and MSNBC have just delivered one of the most dishonest pieces of propaganda posing as journalism in American broadcast and cable television history.”

We agree with Matthews who states in his conclusion, “What’s scary today is the language thrown about. Words have consequences.”

The National Tea Party Federation calls for all tea party supporters to contact the sponsors of Hardball and ask them to pull their commercials from this show.  (Advertiser listing and contacts at NTPF website.) These commercial sponsors cannot continue their support of a program that seeks to demonize millions of Americans who identify with the Tea Party movement.

Furthermore, the Federation is calling on all Americans and local tea party groups to voice their objection to local media outlets on this dishonest attack on citizens who have legitimate policy concerns and are exercising their First Amendment rights.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

National Tea Party Federation calls for Federal Government to Execute its Constitutional Duty
Defend the borders and protect US citizens
Enforce existing immigration laws already on the books

May 3, 2010 – The National Tea Party Federation (NTPF) in a statement of support for the citizens of Arizona, calls on the Federal government to perform its constitutional duty and enforce existing immigration laws and secure our sovereign borders. It is in the national security, and economic interest of this nation that the appropriate actions be taken.

The illegal entry of foreign nationals, drug and human trafficking, has had a devastating effect on the border communities. It has caused undue hardship on border residents, and led to untold human suffering of illegal foreign nationals. In addition, there has been a significant increase in murder, home invasions, kidnappings, and robberies, especially in the state of Arizona.

Toby Walker, President of the Waco Tea Party stated, “While the focus of criticism seems to be that the state of Arizona decided to act in its best interests, we in Texas understand the frustration by the lack of action from the Federal Government in protecting our borders. Representatives in our own state are now calling for a similar law to be passed in Texas. When the Federal Government does not execute its Constitutional duties, the states must act to protect its citizens.”

Jason Hoyt of the Orlando Tea Party commented, “The left is trying to make this about race. It is not. This is about the rights of states and their respective responsibility to protect their citizenry. The border must be secured and the crime, drug dealing and human trafficking that now engulfs the border states must be dealt with before we discuss immigration reform. I’m proud of the state of Arizona for exercising their state’s rights and no longer waiting for the Federal government.”

Robin Stublen president of Punta Gorda Tea Party said, "The failure by the Federal Government to meet its obligations under the Constitution resulted in the passage of a new state law by Arizona. We respect and support the leaders of Arizona in their effort to restore order in their state and protect their citizens. We can all agree that more must be done and that our borders must be protected. However, until the Federal Government and those elected decide to take the necessary steps to properly secure our borders against trespassing by foreign nationals, we support Arizona and urge other states to adopt the Arizona law as well. It is not only their right under Article 4 Section 4, but their duty to protect their citizens and their property.

Jerry Clark, President of the Las Cruces Tea Party said, “New Mexico is a diverse state. We embrace legal immigration and the enforcement of our laws. However, Arizona is acting in its best interests for its people. The Federal Government has done little to secure our borders and we expect more. A nation without borders is not a nation and the Obama administration has shown no interest in performing one of the key Constitutional duties enumerated in the Constitution, protecting our national security.”

As a nation of immigrants we honor those foreign nationals who reside within our sovereign boundaries legally by obeying visa and residency laws. We welcome and acknowledge those following the legal and reasonable process to become proud, naturalized citizens of the United States.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Congratulations to Jenny Beth Martin as Time 100 Leader

Icon solidifies all Tea Party leaders and the Tea Party movement

Not just home cooking anymore!

April 27, 2010 - The National Tea Party Federation, today, offered its congratulations to Jenny Beth Martin and Tea Party leaders everywhere for her inclusion in the 2010 Time 100.  The recognition of Jenny Beth Martin reflects on all Tea Party members as this grass roots effort has influenced politics, created new activism and become a force majeure in the conservative movement.

Mark A. Skoda, Chairman of The Memphis TEA Party stated, "The recognition of Jenny Beth is a high water mark in the Tea Party movement.  Her efforts and those of millions of other grass roots activists are demonstrably evident in this listing.  Good leadership requires good followership, and the Tea Party movement has always been about 'servant leadership'.  We salute Jenny Beth and the Tea Party movement in observing this recognition."

The Tea Party movement has motivated and energized people to move off the couch and into the streets and our country's capitols in a way that is unprecedented in recent history.  The people of this nation, who are largely represented by and in the movement, are unwilling to go back to sleep allowing a government to overreach and diminish the future for their children and grandchildren.

Jamie Radtke, President of the Richmond Tea Party commented, "As a woman and a Tea Party leader, I am so pleased to see this level of recognition.  Jenny Beth represents the fifty-five percent of the Tea Party movement that is comprised of women and the leadership we bring each and every day.  I am so proud to be part of this activism and the fact that we are making a difference in our country."

Suzanne Pak, Executive Director of Song of Truth Foundation, stated, "The Tea Party movement is an extraordinary grass roots effort.  People like Jenny Beth and our own National Tea Party Federation provide the leadership and mature and reasoned comment that is so necessary to change the dialogue of this nation.  Leaders everywhere along with their membership should be proud of this recognition. I know I am!"

The Tea Party movement is comprised of people who represent the deep convictions of American exceptionalism and is focused on fiscal responsibility, Constitutionally limited government and free markets.  And the Tea Party movement is about the zeal for liberty and freedom that our Founder's represented in the Declaration of Independence and our Constitution.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

National Tea Party Federation calls on CBC

to help settle 'Racism' charges centered around

Capitol Hill Health Care rally

Requests turnover of "all relevant information"

Singles out Congressman Carson's statements on use of 'N-word'

April 27, 2010 - The National Tea Party Federation announced that it has sent an open letter requesting all relevant information be provided to the NTPF that documents the alleged racial epithets hurled at members of the Congressional Black Caucus.

David Webb, Co-founder of TeaParty365 and a founding member of the National Tea Party Federation stated, "The continued use of the racism narrative to describe the Tea Party movement is both unfair and offensive.  Our effort is to clear the reputation of the Tea Party movement during the Washington DC rally by asking for the cooperation of Congressmen Lewis and Carson.  We believe this approach will allow the National Tea Party Federation to address those allegations appropriately, should they prove true."

The National Tea Party Federation letter to Congresswoman Lee requests assistance in turning over all relevant documentation to the NTPF for review.  Additionally, the NTPF has agreed to the reciprocal release of its own documentation related to this event. The three-page letter was sent to the CBC offices at the Rayburn Building by express delivery service and is posted at http://www.thenationalteapartyfederation.com/pressroom.html.

Jamie Radtke, President of the Richmond Tea Party and a founding member of the National Tea Party Federation, said, "We need to respectfully and deliberately resolve this issue. We will not tolerate the kind of behavior that has been alleged. We are hopeful that the Congressional Black Caucus will assist in our efforts and respond accordingly."

Mark A. Skoda, Chairman of The Memphis TEA Party and a founding member of the National Tea Party Federation, commented, "It is regrettable that this allegation has not been dealt with officially. The Tea Party movement is one of honor and integrity. We will uphold this standard by identifying the perpetrator, should the allegations prove true.

“Recently, Congressman Steve Cohen, of the 9th District in Memphis, has perpetuated an unfounded racism narrative during a radio interview,” continued Skoda. “We find this deeply disturbing, especially in light of the fact that no empirical evidence has been produced documenting the allegations. We hope the Congressional Black Caucus shares our desire to get to the bottom of this incident."

Recent news reports have speculated that the National Tea Party Federation is a step toward the creation of a 3rd party, that the Federation is merging with the GOP and that this is an effort to nationalize the tea party movement.

To re-iterate, the National Tea Party Federation is a broad coalition of national and regional Tea Party groups that have come together to allow for clarity of message, rapid response to media misinformation while continuing to build the brand equity of the Tea Party movement at the local and regional level. The NTPF will act in unison without a central leadership to collaborate and promote the movement's core principles of Fiscal Responsibility, Constitutionally Limited Government, and Free Markets.

Amy Kremer, of American Grass Roots Coalition and a Director of TEA Party Express, commented, "As a woman and mother, my concerns for the country revolve around our message of smaller government and accountability.  The NTPF provides a way in which we can coordinate our efforts nationally and respond to the antagonism of the Left through the media and hold them accountable to responsible reporting."

Grass roots activists everywhere have worked to inform themselves, notify their representatives of their objections and take action in the form of rallies, meetings and calls into those representatives. Individual groups have worked tirelessly to assemble their members and deliver their comments to their elected legislators.  However, the formation of the National Tea Party Federation will allow for a "clearinghouse" of messaging, media comment, local video and documentation while at the same time aligning the affiliates in "one message, one face."

Skoda, further stated, "The Tea Party movement's favorability is at an all time high of fifty-two percent.  The extraordinary efforts, put forward by common citizens to make their voices heard, will now have a federation capable of national communication."

Darla Dewald of ResistNet also commented, "The power of this federation is extraordinary.  The leadership and advisors who have chosen to affiliate within the National Tea Party Federation are key activists with the capability to deliver a clear message while also working with their membership to achieve change."

Maggie Hunt of the Santee East County Tea Party stated, "This federation, much like the United States itself, is a combination of large Tea Party organizations and smaller local groups.  We are so please to play our part and to participate in this important effort. The time to align our messaging is now and the National Tea Party Federation will give voice to many more in the Tea Party movement."

Dozens of other Tea Party leadership and affiliates have been invited into the National Tea Party Federation and are working through their review processes.  The NTPF is an open federation and welcomes all Tea Party groups and affiliates who are committed to the core principles of fiscal responsibility, constitutionally limited government and free markets.
